I was honoured to be selected first out of the Private Members Bill ballot earlier this year. I have chosen to focus my Bill on careers advice.
My Education (Careers Guidance in Schools) Bill will put, in law, this Government's commitment to giving more young people better career advice, from an earlier age, and bigger opportunities in life.
What the Bill would do is extend careers provision in school, meaning careers advice is consistent, of the highest quality and accessible across the board. I firmly believe that our futures should not be limited by our postcodes.
All our schools and academies in the Workington constituency are leading the way in careers advice - this is something to be extremely proud of.
“I’m delighted to support this Bill which will ensure more young people can explore all the high-quality options available to them, including our skills programmes from apprenticeships to T Levels and traineeships, as early as possible in their education.
“It’s vital that pupils receive world class careers advice and guidance to support more people to secure exciting and rewarding futures, and get a first step on the career ladder.
“I also want to thank Mark for taking forward this Bill, and for his commitment to championing careers and enabling young people to access great opportunities.”
Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills, Gillian Keegan MP
