Mark Jenkinson MP is pleased that Cumbria County Council have decided to reopen tips in line with Government guidance.
Other councils across the country who had closed their waste facilities, have confirmed that their Household Waste and Recycling Centres would re- open in the coming weeks.
Mark Jenkinson MP said: "Nothing in Government guidance told councils that HWRCs should close. The majority of people who can work from home are working from home and this is creating an unprecedented amount of waste which many constituents don’t have room to store.
I have asked Cumbria County Council repeatedly why the HWRCs are still closed. It is right that all measures are taken so that employees are protected at this time and that social distancing guidelines are followed. However, it is essential that waste does not build up in homes or present as fly tipping in communities."
Government have now provided specific guidance giving Cumbria County Council the confidence it requires to work within this framework to reopen this important service to my constituents.
I look forward to seeing the details of this."
