THE Conservatives have committed to further driving down bills by retaining the Energy Price Cap, scaling up new nuclear, and delivering gas power stations.
The pledge comes as the UK has faced unprecedented challenges caused by the pandemic and Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.
But the Conservatives have restored economic stability, reduced inflation, boosted wages, created more jobs, cut taxes, and increased growth.
As part of the clear plan to Conservatives will retain the Energy Price Cap, protecting millions of families from unexpected energy bill rises. Bold action will also be taken to create a league table of energy providers to empower families to take charge of their finances as the Conservatives stick to the plan that has seen bills fall to their lowest level since 2022.
Mark Jenkinson, the former MP for Workington and the Conservative candidate for Penrith and Solway, said: “The manifesto shows that we are committed to supporting working people and building a strong economy.
“The plan is clearly working. Despite huge international challenges, prudent steps taken by the Conservatives means that we are better protected from these fluctuations in the global markets than most European countries.
“Energy bills have fallen to their lowest level since 2022, thanks largely to the approach taken by the Government to mitigate the issue by protecting some of the most vulnerable in our communities.
“I have always been a staunch supporter of nuclear new build in Cumbria – and I welcome the party’s commitment to help deliver this – a commitment that was underscored at the beginning of last year with the creation of an entirely new ministerial position – that of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Nuclear and Networks.”
The Conservatives will press ahead with their world-leading development plan for the nuclear industry by delivering two new fleets of Small Modular Reactors.
This will deliver the domestic power needed to protect our country from global energy insecurity and protect household bills from skyrocketing.
Bold action will also be taken to deliver new gas power stations under the Conservatives to power Britain’s homes and businesses. This will ensure that even on cloudy, windless days, when renewables are not able to power Britain alone, Britain will not be without energy.
All this builds on the Conservative Government’s strong record on renewable energy, driving up the supply of renewable energy from just 6 per cent in 2010 to 48 per cent of our national energy supply. This progress has reduced our reliance on fossil fuels and bolstered our energy security.
Alongside protecting energy bills for families across the country and growing the economy, the Conservatives have reduced the country’s emissions further and faster than any other major economy – making it clear that only the Conservatives can be trusted to deliver net zero in a pragmatic and practical way without harming family finances.
