MARK Jenkinson MP has welcomed the opening Maryport’s first Banking Hub today (24th November) which he has helped to secure.
The new service on Senhouse Street will allow customers to access all major banks and building societies under one roof, and to carry our regular cash transactions.
Mark, who was invited to cut the ribbon at the venue, said: “I've worked hard to ensure Maryport gets this important facility – and I am delighted that it has finally arrived.
“With recent bank closures in our area, this will provide a much-needed lifeline for continued cash access in our community.
“It is great that the hub will be in the heart of the town which will make getting access to banking services even easier for my constituents.
“Maryport is already being transformed through the £11.5m Government Future High Street Fund – and this is another milestone in the revival of the town’s fortunes.
“Banking Hubs are the future and will allow people to access financial advice despite some branch closures.”
Banking Hubs provide easy, face-to-face access to cash and banking in the heart of UK communities – whoever you bank with. They're owned by Cash Access UK and operated by the Post Office, with community bankers from major banks available on different days to meet with face to face.
Adrian Roberts, Chief Commercial Officer for Link, said: “Mark was one of the first MPs in the country to contact Link about this initiative.
“This whole project came about as a direct result of Mark approaching Link.
“Without his intervention and assistance, this service would simply not be available on the high street. Mark made the request; we carried out the assessment and made the recommendation; and Cash Access UK found the property.”
Speaking at the ribbon-cutting Mark Essex, Commercial and Innovation Director at Cash Access UK, added: “Mark Jenkinson was instrumental in ensuring Maryport has a banking hub in the first place – and it therefore seems fitting that he should be the one to declare it officially open.
“I would like to thank Mark, Link, and the Post Office for their roles in bringing the Banking Hub to Maryport.
“It is great to see this initiative become a reality and I have no doubt that it will complement the excellent regeneration work already underway in the town.”
For more complicated issues, the Hub will offer a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own banking provider. Working on rotation, the services available are:
- Monday: NatWest
- Tuesday: HSBC
- Wednesday: Halifax
- Thursday: TSB
- Friday: Barclays
