Mark Jenkinson, the Member of Parliament for the Workington constituency, welcomed Levelling up Minister Neil O Brien to the constituency yesterday.
Mark gave the Minister a tour of Workington and Maryport to demonstrate the projects that will be delivered as part of the £23 million Town Deal in Workington and the £11.5 million Future High Street Fund in Maryport.
Mark visited Borough Park with the Minister and met with members of the stadium project board, which will deliver the new sports village – providing a new stadium for Workington Reds and Workington Town as well as a community pitch and other facilities as part of the wider regeneration of the lower Derwent Valley..
The Minister also visited the Wave Centre in Maryport to discuss the Conservatives’ plans for a new swimming pool there to serve Maryport and the surrounding areas.
Mark said ‘Levelling up in my constituency has already begun with the delivery of 2019 Conservative manifesto commitments, and I wanted to show the Levelling up Minister the progress we’ve made - delivering on our plan for the whole constituency.
This investment from Government has resulted in the largest ever capital budget set by Allerdale Borough Council, enabling the local Conservative team to deliver these projects.
I want to see better facilities, more opportunity and more businesses moving to our area. It was important that the Minister saw the potential that we have here in our community and the drive we have locally to improve our towns.’
