Mark Jenkinson MP for Workington has been elected as a member if the BEIS Select Committee.
In the House of Commons, there is a Select Committee for each Government Department, examining three aspects: spending, policies and administration.
These departmental committees have a minimum of 11 members, who decide upon the line of inquiry and then gather written and oral evidence. Findings are reported to the Commons, printed, and published on the Parliament website. The Government then usually has 60 days to reply to the committee's recommendations.
Mark said ‘I am delighted to have been elected by other MPs onto the Business, Energy and Industry Strategy Select Committee. Workington has a large industrial sector as well as a significant energy offering and a wide range of businesses of varying sizes and from different sectors.
I am looking forward to being part of the committee to scrutinise Government policy in these areas.
