Mark Jenkinson MP is calling on Workington constituency’s small shopkeepers to enter the Best Small Shops Competition, celebrating the successes of small shops and the central role they play in their local community, particuarly in response to Covid- 19.
The Best Small Shops Competition is open to any small shop operating in the UK- defined as a non- corporate business selling goods or services to the public for use or consumption rather than for resale, from a business rated premise.
The competition is free to enter and all shops who enter will be promoted to consumers through an online Indie Retail Directory.
Shopkeepers can nominate their businesses until Friday 11th September 2020 via www.bestsmallshops.co.uk A shortlist will be announced in October with winners announced in November.
The judges will be looking for evidence of a small shops’ entrepreneurial spirit, ways that they have been innovative in their business and what they have done to have a lasting positive impact on their community.
The shortlisted small shops will then be in with the chance to win one of the five awards, including the newly launched award for small shops response to Covid- 19.
Mark Jenkinson MP said ‘My constituency of Workington is home to hundreds of small shops and businesses. Whether your shop is located in Cockermouth, Workington, Maryport, Silloth, Aspatria or any of the villages in between.
Over the past couple of weeks I have visited a number of small shops that have remained open during lockdown and discussed with them how they adapted to adhere to Government guidance throughout this time.
One thing is for sure- small shops are key to the communities that they serve and that has been evident over the past few months. I want to see small shops in the Workington constituency recognised for the effort and care that they have demonstrated to their communities and I would encourage shopkeepers in my constituency to consider entering the competition.’
