Mark Jenkinson MP for Workington, welcomes the Towns Fund Accelerated Funding for Workington town centre.
The Workington Towns Deal has been awarded an additional £750,000.
The additional funding will hopefully be used to purchase and demolish the Opera House as well as improving connectivity and public realm schemes.
Mark Jenkinson MP said: "This money from Government, will greatly assist with the improvements to Workington town centre. I want to see a much improved town centre in Workington and that includes demolishing derelict buildings.
I have long supported the idea of demolishing the Opera House- a prime site in Workington town centre. It will vastly improve the appearance of that area of town, creating a better environment for those living and working close by. I would like to see it replaced by something more fitting and I look forward to seeing plans for this in due course."
