MARK Jenkinson MP has welcomed the return of his Workington Skills Fair, with more than 50 exhibitors set to take part.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, it will be held from 3pm until 7pm in the town’s leisure centre on February 8th.
The Skill Fair will also host a much wider range of employers and exhibitors than last year, with Gen2, Energus, CLEP, Sizewell C, Inspira, the University of Cumbria, SP Training, JTL, Lakes College, and Persimmon among the main sponsors.
For the first time, the free event will include a useful CV-writing workshop which is being run by the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership.
Mark Jenkinson said: “I am thrilled that we have been able to bring the skills fair back to Workington. It was a big hit last year, and exceptionally well attended.
“This event is bigger and better than its predecessor, with a much wider range of exhibitors taking part. It will showcase the plethora of opportunities that are out there in terms of career development, training, and jobs.
“I am very grateful for the support shown by businesses, training providers, and sponsors without whom this fantastic event would not have been possible.
“We may all have different skills, but we share common goals: to raise aspiration; to attract and nurture talent; and to help businesses, apprentices, and employees achieve their potential.
“Anyone who is serious about their future should pop in: there really will be something for everyone. I know that job seekers and exhibitors alike benefitted hugely from last year’s Skills Fair.
“When I was elected in 2019, one of my priorities was to deliver skilled and high-quality opportunities for the people of Workington. Thanks to record levels of Government and private investment into our area, we have been able to deliver these opportunities.
“It remains a high priority for Cumbria to retain and develop our talent – and the Skills Fair is at the heart of these endeavours. I mean to continue this vital work for my constituents.”
